The French capital city of Marseille has claimed its first trophy in European football with a historic 2-1 victory over the Italian club, Napoli.
The match was held at the Stade de France and saw Marseille's new manager, Didier Deschamps, bring his side into the spotlight after their previous failure to qualify for the Champions League.
Despite being one point behind Paris Saint-Germain in the standings, Marseille were able to take control of the game through a combination of creativity and skill from their attacking line-up.
Captain Mathieu Flamini scored the opener in the 25th minute and later added another goal in the 78th minute to seal the win for Marseille.
However, Napoli did not let up as they fought back to level the score just before halftime. In the second half, it was Napoli who took the lead, with a header by substitute Giacomo Bonetti.
Despite the late comeback, Marseille had enough to secure the title and move up to third place in the table, with Napoli now relegated to the Europa League.
The victory is also a huge boost for Marseille, who have been struggling to get off the mark this season under their current manager, Didier Deschamps.
It is set to be a significant achievement for the club as they look to continue their strong form in Europe next season.
